I joined the Department of Psychology at the University at Albany, State University of New York (SUNY) as a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Computational Cognitive Neuroscience and Simons Empire Faculty Fellow in Fall 2026.
Previously, I completed my PhD in Australia at The University of Sydney followed by a postdoctoral position at UNSW Sydney and an independent NHMRC Early Career Research Fellowship at Macquarie University. In 2018 I moved to the States for a research fellow position in the Laboratory of Brain and Cognition at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD, USA.
The aim of my research in cognitive neuroscience is to understand how the human brain processes visual information. I’m particularly interested in understanding the neural mechanisms underlying our ability to recognize faces and objects. Towards this goal, I use neuroimaging techniques (fMRI, M/EEG), behavioral experiments, and computational tools to understand how brain activity gives rise to human behavior.
Graduate Students
I’ll be recruiting a graduate student this cycle to begin in Fall 2027.
Graduate students are admitted through the Cognitive Psychology PhD program in the Department of Psychology at the University at Albany (SUNY). Applications are due by January 15, 2027 and further information on the program is available here.
If you’re interested in potentially joining the lab as a graduate student, please contact Susan by email.
Undergraduate Students
There are opportunities for undergraduate students at the University at Albany to volunteer in the lab and gain research experience.
Typically undergraduate students begin research in the lab by volunteering their time. Following a successful initial research experience in the lab there are also occasional opportunities to obtain course credit for research in the lab via enrollment in APSY 297/397/497 Directed Study in Psychology.
We are currently considering applications for Spring 2027.
If you’re interested in potentially joining the lab as an undergraduate student, please contact Susan by email for an application form. Please note that a minimum time commitment of 4 hours/week across 2 semesters is required.
